What is Alcoholics Anonymous?
AA is a worldwide fellowship of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
What happens at a meeting?
Members share their personal experiences with alcohol and recovery. There are no fees, no sign-ups, and no obligations. You can simply listen if you prefer. Everything shared at meetings is confidential.
Do I have to speak at a meeting?
No. You are welcome to just listen. Many people attend several meetings before they feel comfortable sharing. There is no pressure to participate beyond what you're ready for.
Does AA cost anything?
No. AA has no dues or fees. The fellowship is self-supporting through voluntary contributions from its members, but no one is ever required or expected to contribute.
